Active Fit Sporty Expo

Active Fit Sporty Expo

On Saturday 31st March 2018 The Female Sports Forum facilitated Active Fit and Sporty Expo Events to celebrate female sport and encourage more women and girls to participate in Sport and physical activity.
At the Valley Leisure Centre in Newtownabbey a wide range of sports were on offer including Basketball, Netball, Boxing, Judo, Table Tennis, Football, Rugby and Badminton in the form of demonstrations and taster sessions. This was a fantastic opportunity for Governing bodies to promote their sport and create links to local clubs. We were joined by John Kearns and the Cool FM road show bus providing the days entertainment. Participants and members of the public tried lots of different sports and had the opportunity to enjoy Inflatable games in a fun environment.
As part of the Expo events there was also sports promotion and demonstrations in Abbey Centre with Netball NI and Valley Netball Club, Park Centre with Ulster Table Tennis and Ormeau Table Tennis Club and Connswater Shopping Centre with Better Gym Belfast.

On Wednesday evening we showcased Ladies Gaelic Football as we partnered with Belfast Community Sports Development Network to deliver a girls Blitz evening for over 80 young girls as part of our Expo events.
Danielle McDowell, Project Manager of the Female Sports Forum said:
“Our Active Fit and Sporty Expo was a fantastic advert for female sport. It was great to see so many females of all ages enjoying the wide range of activities we had on offer. It was a fantastic opportunity to highlight the female coaches we had leading sessions across all sports. We would like to thank Sport NI and Department for Community’s for all their support in funding these events and helping us celebrate females in Sport”.
Eliza Downey from Ulster Rugby added “Ulster Rugby were delighted to be involved in todays Active Fit and Sporty Expo. It was a great opportunity for us to promote our sport and create links to local Rugby Clubs. It is great to see so many organisations working in partnership to promote female sport. The girls from rugby thoroughly enjoyed todays activities”.
